摘要:GRE寫(xiě)作中Analyze an Issue是類(lèi)似于托福the Independent Writing Task的寫(xiě)作分項(xiàng)。但是,并不完全等同,并且要求更多也更高。
GRE寫(xiě)作中Analyze an Issue是類(lèi)似于托福the Independent Writing Task的寫(xiě)作分項(xiàng)。但是,并不完全等同,并且要求更多也更高。
首先,Analyze an Issue這個(gè)寫(xiě)作分項(xiàng)有具體的寫(xiě)作指令(要求),考生的寫(xiě)作需要充分回應(yīng)指令的要求。
并且,指令的類(lèi)型不少,有6種,也就是說(shuō)考生需在遇到不同的指令時(shí),有不同的應(yīng)對(duì)。
同時(shí),Analyze an Issue中給出的論題可能比較高深,也可能比較抽象。那么,拿托福獨(dú)立寫(xiě)作的那一套東西來(lái)應(yīng)對(duì)是行不通的。
我們今天先看最常見(jiàn)的一種指令:
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.
指令中關(guān)鍵的部分已經(jīng)用斜體字和黃色高亮標(biāo)出。這個(gè)指令的措辭復(fù)雜,直譯出來(lái)的意思不容易讓人理解。其實(shí)解讀出來(lái)的意思就是“給出的論題為什么對(duì)或者為什么不對(duì)”。
于是,我們發(fā)現(xiàn)這個(gè)指令是一個(gè)要求不高的指令,也就是說(shuō)我們正常論證給出的statement的對(duì)錯(cuò)(也就是我們同意或者不同意)即可。
我們以一個(gè)題目為例:
People’s behavior is largely determined by forces not of their own making.
假設(shè)我們我們的立場(chǎng)為:【Agree】,老師寫(xiě)了一個(gè)作文的梗概,如下:

Taking a dualistic view, people’s behavior is determined by both the internal forces and the external forces. However, such political correctness—taking a balanced view to look at an issue—may be unadoptable in evaluating this statement. In many realities, external forces, forces not of people’s own making, are the decisive factors in the ways people behave.

論證“人的社會(huì)屬性(人與人的關(guān)聯(lián))”。
This statement demonstrates a clear awareness that people are not independent individuals but socially connected with each other. This relation determines people’s behavior, and the behavior is necessarily interactive, responding to others’ mind, language and acts. Only if we agree with the idea underlying this statement can we use reason, as is opposed to emotion, to understand many charitable actions. 接下來(lái)可以通過(guò)現(xiàn)實(shí)的例子去印證道理。

論證“人的內(nèi)因不足”。
This statement is right also because it displays the courage to admit humans’ lack of self-discipline, and prior to that, it shows consciousness of this defect of humans. Those who are opposed to this statement may fall in the dangerous idealism that humans are able to regulate their behavior by their faith and will power. 接下來(lái)可以通過(guò)現(xiàn)實(shí)的例子去印證道理。

論證“人與自然的關(guān)聯(lián)”。
This statement also sees humans’ close relation to the natural and physical world, and the material surroundings also largely determine our actions.

In light of the above, the statement actually adopts the view of materialism, which has been widely accepted. When we recognize that people’s behavior is largely subject to external forces and conditions, we are not yielding to our surroundings but judging our incapability in perspective, and we would therefore not be the fool that overestimates our own strength but make the external our advantage.
通過(guò)這個(gè)梗概,大家可能發(fā)現(xiàn)回應(yīng)這中指令的作文確實(shí)不需要什么特別的設(shè)計(jì),就是按部就班的方式進(jìn)行討論就好。
但是,大家應(yīng)該也發(fā)現(xiàn)文中多處被黃色高亮的部分,是不是有什么說(shuō)法?
是的。我們發(fā)現(xiàn)這些高亮部分都是針對(duì)statement的評(píng)價(jià)。也就是說(shuō)老師在范文中總是會(huì)首先刻意論述statement做了什么和做對(duì)了什么(如果是“不同意”,就是論述statement做錯(cuò)了什么),然后才去討論論題內(nèi)容(即People’s behavior is largely determined by forces not of their own making.)本身。這種寫(xiě)作方法是Issue任務(wù)中討喜的,符合Issue任務(wù)的設(shè)定和要求。
